Alvernia University Accelerates Digital Transformation Through Partnership with Softdocs

Written by Mariya Harris | Apr 29, 2025

Softdocs, the leading provider of process automation and document management for education and government, announced today that Alvernia University has selected the Softdocs Platform to move away from paper-based processes and modernize its document retention and automation efforts across campus with full integration to Ellucian PowerCampus

Located in Reading, Pennsylvania, Alvernia University serves a diverse student population with a mission rooted in academic excellence, community engagement, and Franciscan values. This partnership with Softdocs supports the university's commitment to delivering an enhanced, student-centered experience through improved access to digital services while advancing Alvernia's long-standing dedication to environmental and fiscal sustainability.

Currently, Alvernia’s document processes are largely paper-based. Alvernia University will deploy the full Softdocs Platform — including document retention and the Softdocs Library of ready-to-use electronic form templates — as part of a campus-wide digitization effort.

The university is prioritizing student services and administrative departments, with plans to expand shortly after. Integration with PowerCampus is already underway, with plans to connect to a new SIS/ERP system as it is implemented.

"Alvernia’s focus on innovative and sustainable practices are key pillars in providing an exceptional student experience," said Chief Information Officer Cynthia Schaffer. "Partnering with Softdocs allows us to create a more modern, efficient, and environmentally conscious campus environment while continuing to place student needs at the center of our operations. This collaboration is an important step in our ongoing digital transformation journey."

The Softdocs platform will provide Alvernia with a secure and intuitive environment to modernize document management and automate manual tasks — reducing reliance on paper and enabling better decision-making through digital access to information.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Alvernia University to the Softdocs community,” said Adam Park, Softdocs CEO. “Their commitment to a fully digital campus reflects the innovative leadership that we love to support. We’re excited to partner with them as they transform how they serve their students, faculty, and staff.”
